Duty Free Philippines Corporation and Equitable Computer Services Inc. have recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement for ECS to enable Alipay QR Payments acceptance by DFPC. The signing ceremony was held last November 13, 2018 at the office of DFPC at EHA Building, Fiestamall, Paranaque City with DFPC Chief Operating Officer Vicente Pelagio Angala (leftmost) and ECS Senior Vice President Susan Lao on behalf of their respective companies. Equitable Computer Services and its partner Smartpay has signed up Duty Free Philippines Corporation as one of its acquired merchants to accept Alipay Cross Border Mobile payments.
Using Alipay’s QR technology, visitors from mainland China make mobile payments using their electronic wallets. With more than 800 million users worldwide and more than a million expected visiting the Philippines this year, having Alipay can mean robust sales for Philippine merchants catering to Chinese tourists.
The signing ceremony was held last November 13, 2018 at DFPC’s office at EHA Building, Fiestamall Paranaque City with DFPC Chief Operating Officer Vicente Pelagio Angala and ECS Senior Vice President Susan Lao. Also present were ECS Vice President Alvin Sunga and Smartpay President Henry Diaz.
On December 26, 2018 DFPC began accepting Alipay Mobile Payments at its Luxe Duty Free at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay with Duty Free Mactan targeted for Alipay acceptance by mid-January.
